In rare moments we drink a glass of champagne. But did you know that only the best sparkling wine from the picturesque region of Champagne, located in northeastern France, can boast this name? Only this famous sparkling wine is true champagne and originates from a delicate combination of  three varieties of vines, which are Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.

Grapes have been grown in the Champagne region for centuries, more specifically from the first  century AD. Before this period this exceptional wine did not have its present name, instead it was recognised by using the words 'sparkling' or 'brisk wine'.

 The annual production of French champagne is on average of a whopping 180 million bottles of true champagne. When choosing a champagne it is common to judge type, color and origin. champagne wines are distributed according to their degree of sweetness: Extra-brut (extra dry) / Brut (dry) / Extra dry / Sec (dry) / Demi sec (medium-dry) / Doux (sweet/soft).

At what temperature is champagne best served? The serving temperature of champagne is very important and should be served chilled from 6 ° to  8 ° C. The optimum temperature of the glass should be  9 ° C. The older the champagne , the higher the serving temperature. Generally, very old champagnes are served chilled up to 14 ° C, which is  also ideal cellar temperature.
