Karlovy Vary City Theatre

Formidable, amazing, impressive and inherently belonging to Karlovy Vary. This is the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre, which attracts guests to its rich program, as well as its beautiful historical building.

The history of the Karlovy Vary Theater dates back to the 18th century, as when the first streets were laid, in 1717 the theater moved into its first building in Karlovy Vary. This primitive building subsequently deteriorated and was replaced by the Becher Theater, which boasted almost a century of existence. A new building brought modern amenities and exquisite interior decoration. This theatre building was badly affected especially during the war and due to emergency conditions the theatre had its last performance on June 30, 1993. This was followed by complete reconstruction in June 1999, the reopening ceremony was held, where the opening was a performance of Gogol's Marriage. Thanks to this rebirth we can once again visit the Karlovy Vary Municipal Theatre today.

Now, in addition to entertaining domestic audiences, the theater program is also tailored to foreign guests. They can enjoy classical music concerts, opera and attractive operetta titles and dance performances. In the near future the theatre will host performances such as Don Giovanni by Mozart, performed by the JK Tyl Theatre of Pilsen. The best known and most popular operetta evergreens recall a Gala Concert, where you will hear arias from the works of F. Lehar, J. Strauss, E. Kalmánači O. Nedbal. Other opera treats include La Boheme by Giacomo Puccini, which still belongs to the basic repertoire of every opera house.
A Ballet Gala promises an extraordinary experience with a choice of the best solo scenes of ballet such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and Coppélia.

Should you have an opportunity to visit Karlovy Vary City Theater, do not hesitate to pay a visit to any performance that packed theater program of has to offer. Tickets can be purchased at reception at the Hotel Carlsbad Plaza.
